I make available an essay described as an Afterword from my book Michel Serres and the Climate Crisis (Series: Philosophy for a Time of Crisis– 1), 2026.
Synopsis: Probably Shakespeare’s last play, The Tempest, replays Serres’ thoughts on the figure of the ‘Parasite’. The play hinges on the dynamics of host and guest; displays the prominence of ‘noise’; explores the interaction between temporal ‘hardness’ and durable ‘softness’; and finally expresses Caliban as Shakespeare’s definitive figure of the ‘inclusive third’.
